piñata upcycle
this year, for our daughter's 5th birthday, we chose to decorate simply... in a style that is dear to her heart : shopkins! these wee store item characters are a hit in this house! {at least by the smallest female}
in addition to details such as a shopkins toy on top of her cake + shopkins first aid bandages {thank you target dollar aisle!}, i decided to transform an off-the-shelf piñata into one of her favorites, cupcake chic!
to collect:
- a cupcake-shaped piñata,
- a printer,
- scissors,
- clear tape, +
- glue or a glue gun
to do:
- buy a piñata!
{i purchased our cupcake-shaped piñata at target}
- search for an image online
{i did a google search, looking under the "images" tab, til i found an image best-suited for my project} - copy + paste the image into a word or powerpoint doc {or whichever format you choose}, + enlarge the image to the desired size {sometimes this means printing + reprinting the image until it's just the right size}
- cut the eyes + eyebrows + nose + mouth, keeping the background as one solid piece.
- loosely tape the background piece to your piñata {this will help you place the pieces in the right spot, instead of eye-balling it}
- using your hot glue gun, begin adhering your eyes + eyebrows + nose + mouth to the piñata
{it doesn't require a lot of glue}
- gently remove the background piece + voila, you have a shopkin cupcake piñata!
xoxoxo
